One of THOSE Days

I woke up this morning wondering when my story became my nemesis? I'm beginning to think that the connection between a writer and his/her story is more like a relationship than anything.

At the beginning, everything is rosy and sweet. You both think the world of each other and together there is nothing you can't do.

A few weeks pass and the writer might start thinking the story isn't all that great after all and the story might start thinking they should have held out for a better writer. But you both keep quiet, because you still hold out hope.

After a few more weeks/months the writer wants to kill off the MC, let the antagonist win and run off with his/her leading love interest. The story is trying to figure out which circuit inside the computer it would need to tweak to send an electric shock through the keyboard.

This is where I am today.

*sigh* I kind of want to wring my story's neck.

Story, please look better to me tomorrow.

P.S. If you want to win a book in which the story at least attempted to behave itself, check out my giveaway. I'll still be accepting entries until this Friday night. ;)

  1. I feel the exact same way today. I wondering if I can salvage the relationship. Maybe we need to go away for the weekend.

  2. Lawd! I know the feeling. I began to get that with the Sweetie novel, then with horror thought "you can't - you have a contract - um...oh dear...."

So, I hit D E L E T E to huge portions of it and I felt so giddy, so aliiivvve, so DARING and devil may care *laughing* -- then, it felt all fresh and new - as if it had been to a spa and come back all renewed...some of it anyway...enough of it ..haw

  4. Haha, yea. I'm still on great terms with my current WIP, but my first is on hold because we can't get along.

Good luck! Hope it cooperates tomorrow. :)

  5. I'm in the same boat and have been for the past month or so. I want to print off all the pages I've already gotten done and then have a ceremonial burning of the characters where I dance naked around the fire pit chanting; I'm free, I'm free, you're dead, I'm free...

    *sigh*

  11. I am so with you! Have you read the Libba Bray essay where she compares writing to a relationship? It is FABULOUS. I just tried to find it but couldn't. I may be back later! : )

  12. Dude, I so feel you. Want to know what I do?? *whispers* First I select everything in the Story. Then I copy it.

    Then...

    I delete it.

Just to show it who's in charge.

    Take that!!

Then of course, I paste it back into my document, stat.

  13. I'm at the same place in my book. It's starting to feel like work and I keep thinking, these scenes are boring. But then I go back and read them and it's still pretty dang good.

I think I just need a dose of energy! A clean house would be nice too.

  19. Like a relationship...yep that is true. Sometimes you break up for a little while, then you come back still feeling skittish. You can't just leave you have invested so much time.

  20. OH BOY! I am experiencing one of THOSE days right NOW! Wanna know what I am doing? I'm surfing the blog-o-spherical lands and discovering new writer's blogs.

Hi! *waving* I am new. :)

I just read chapter 1 of Oracle - really liked it! (FYI-The link you have under the word "oracle" on your sidebar is no good though) Your sneak peek left me wanting more... great teaser! I want to know what comes next.

  25. I can relate to your post. I got so fed up with one of my characters that I did kill him off.
Funny though, it made my work a tad harder than I had anticipated. LOL

  26. Yesterday my story won, today I managed to wrangle it back into some form of control. Or did I? I don't think my characters know any mind control techniques...Crikey!

Too bad we can't just skip to the last page and type, 'The End' and have everything in it's proper place. (Hugs)Indigo
