Hello, My Name Is Jenn, And I Am A NaNoWriMo Virgin

I've decided to participate in NaNoWriMo this year. My reasons are threefold.

1. It sounds interesting.

2. My weakness (as far as time goes) is my first draft. I have a tendency to think I suck every other page and give up writing for life--or at least for the rest of the day. Hopefully, Nano could help me overcome this.

3. I'm letting INSOMNIA stew for a month or two before I dive in for one last round of edits <--translates to I may or may not need a distraction so I don't start querying before it's ready.

So, my fellow friends of the writerly community... have you done NaNo? Are you doing it this year? Do you think my expectations will be fulfilled? How do you like your eggs in the morning? etc.

  1. I haven't either, but thinking that I need a distraction as well.

  2. This will be my second year doing NaNoWriMo. I totally overthink my first draft. Even though I didn't win last year, I did learn I can write interesting material based off a bare bones outline. It helps that you don't have time to think about the words, just write. Write or Die is a great help in that regard.

Good luck! I'm Feywriter over on the official site as well if you want to buddy. :-)

  3. I tried last year but life got in the way and didn't back off till January.

The only way I can write and not go back to edit is with Write or Die. I bought the desktop version and will be using that because I just need to get the words on the paper. Editing and revising comes later.

    You can do this. :o)

  4. My first year was last year, and I did it for the exact reasons you mention above. It really did help me get past the first draft. Even though not everything is usable, once I overcame the burden, things have gotten a lot easier for me. Oh, and be my buddy for this year :) username: tianalei. I'm looking forward to it, it should be really fun this year!

  5. This is my second year doing Nanowrimo. It really helps me to break down the over-thinking fever I can get and just write.

    It's freeing.

  6. I participated one year but I still haven't decided if I'll do it this year. Isn't that lame?
*hugs* Loved talking to you today! You rock!

  7. I've done NaNo. I hated NaNo. NaNo was not for me. However, I DID get my novel MONARCH out of NaNo so I shouldn't knock it, but I do think the book would have taken me 1 less year to write if I hadn't rushed it in the first place with NaNo...

Good luck! I can't wait to see how you like it. :)

  8. Scrambled with Tobasco sauce! LOL! I'm not doing NaNo because I just couldn't wait to start my new novel. I'm already over 3,000 words into it. I'll be cheering you on though!

  10. Good luck! I'm not sure if I'm going to do Nano. I want to, but I also want to keep working on the revisions for my current WiP.

  12. Whoo-hoo! Glad to hear you'll be joining the NaNo madness. It's so much fun!

This is my third year doing NaNoWriMo; I haven't won yet, but I'm doing more planning this year so I think that'll help.

My username is Gantpearl08 if you'd like to add me as a buddy on the website. Beware the forums; they're a great way to procrastinate ;) Also, caffeine and chocolate are your best friends! Remember those things and you should be fine. Good luck, and I'll see you at the finish line!
