NEWS! *flails* AMAZING NEWS!

--*WARNING*--
There is an extreme amount of exclamation marks in this post. If you cannot/should not be exposed to many exclamation marks, then you should stop reading here and immediately go get your grump meter checked as you may be at dangerously high levels. Proceed with caution...

I love March. March makes me crazy happy. I'm beginning to suspect I may be part Irish, or part leprechaun, due to the amazing luck/good news this month has bestowed upon me. I will neither confirm nor deny whether my copper-red hair also makes me suspect this as that would be type-casting and I'm against that.

Maybe I'm related to this guy, it looks like his month has been pretty freaking sparkly also.

Last week, some stuff went down. Good stuff, incredibly amazing stuff. It got real. I only had one response to it...

Duuuude -- Look at all the happy...

This is what made me do that:

March 20, 2013
Children's:
Young Adult
INSOMNIA author J.R. Johansson's untitled new book, in which a seventeen year old barely escapes her abusive parents and creates a new identity that is quickly compromised when her attempt to save a young girl attracts a deadly stalker, to Janine O'Malley at Farrar, Straus Children's, in a very nice deal, at auction, in a two-book deal, by Kathleen Rushall at Marsal Lyon Literary Agency (World).

You guys! My fabulous agent sold my new creeptacular book...at auction! AUCTION! There were publishers loving it so much they were fighting over it! This is the part where I went like this:

My new books will be with FSG/Macmillan! *flails* I have loved their books and their authors for a long time and now I get to be one of them...I am awed and so thrilled! *flails more* Here is a little more about the book. Read whilst I regain my composure...

~~~
We gape at each other and even with the sounds of the city around me, all I can hear is my own breathing.
She inches forward just slightly, and though I can't hear her, I see the words her mouth forms.
"Please. Help me."
17-year-old Piper barely escaped from her abusive parents with her life. Her little brother, Sam, wasn't as lucky. Now she's trying to begin the new life she always dreamed for them, but never thought she'd have to do alone. She hires Cam, a techie-genius with a knack for forgery, to remove the last ties to her old life. But while she can erase her past identity, she can’t rid herself of the memories. And her troubled history won’t let her ignore the little girl she sees day after day in the park. The one with the bruises and burn marks.
That’s when Piper begins to receive the notes. Letters left without a trace of entry in her apartment. And they’re addressed to Piper, her old name. As the letters grow in frequency and in threat, she doesn’t just need to discover who is doing this; she needs to stop them. To protect herself and the people in her new life that she’s grown to care about, Piper must allow herself to think like a predator. It’s not as hard as she expected…
~~~

I'm going to call this book "Piper" as a working title until we figure out the real one. Piper is the book. You know the one that rips your heart out, stomps on it, and somehow manages to put it back in more complete than before? This is that book for me. So the fact that these editors felt so strongly about it means much more than I can say. It has restored my faith in myself, my instincts, and my writing. Pursuing a career as an author involves many struggles, and days like today make it all worth it. Thank you so much publishing world. I love you guys.

Anyway, so now I plan to spend the next year much like this:

And since I believe in spreading joy -- I am showing all of you why you should be just as excited about Macmillan as I am by giving away three of my favorite MacKids books! :)

Hooray for all the happy!
