YA Scavenger Hunt!

UPDATE: Huge Congrats to Vickie who won the Night Walkers set giveaway! Thanks to everyone for participating! :)

Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors...and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize--one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

You can find my exclusive content, a short Day in the Life Video, over on Elizabeth Holloway's blog, but don't miss out on any fun, so follow the Scavenger Hunt first!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are EIGHT contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the GREEN TEAM--but there is also a red, blue, gold, orange, teal, purple and pink team! Each with a chance to win an entire different set of signed books!

If you'd like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

SCAVENGER HUNT POST

Today, I am hosting the awesome and amazing Melissa Landers for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

For those who don't know her already, Melissa Landers is a former teacher who left the classroom to pursue other worlds. A proud sci-fi geek, she isn’t afraid to wear her Princess Leia costume in public—just ask her husband and three kids. She lives just outside Cincinnati in the town of Loveland, "Sweetheart of Ohio."

Find out more information by checking out the author website or find out more about her books, ALIENATED and INVADED, here!

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a whole new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe...until a terrifying threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Here is a short intro to the deleted scene that Melissa is sharing!

Greetings, scavenger hunters! I’m Melissa Landers, author of Alienated and the newly-

released sequel Invaded. Today I’m thrilled to share with you a deleted scene from the first book.

The following originally took place in chapter sixteen, after Cara slices her finger with a vegetable peeler. (You’ll recognize the first few paragraphs.) I loved the flirty interaction here between Aelyx and Cara, but it slowed the pacing and had to be cut.

Hope you enjoy!

EXCLUSIVE DELETED SCENE FROM ALIENATED

* * *

It was a perfect late-autumn evening, with the low sun glowing gently behind the dormant trees, softening the angles of their naked branches. A light chill brushed Cara’s cheeks, refreshing but not too frigid, and the sweet scent of wood smoke drifted on the breeze. Aelyx scanned the surrounding acreage using some kind of gadget that detected warm-blooded life-forms. Aside from a few squirrels, nothing was lurking out there, so he took her injured hand while towing her into the woods.

“Let’s see.” Gingerly, he lifted the paper towel. “No more bleeding. I think you’ll live.”

He tucked the makeshift bandage in his pocked but kept her hand. “Maybe you should pay attention when you’re wielding sharp objects.”

“Hey, it’s your fault. You made me laugh.”

Turning her palm upward, he began tracing the lines with his thumb as they walked. His liquid-silver eyes blazed beneath dark lashes. “How can I make it up to you?”

Cara’s heart fluttered. She cleared her throat and said, “Teach me your chess strategy.”

But that wasn’t the first thought that came to mind. Not even close.

“I don’t know.” He stroked her palm in circles. “It might take twenty moves to defeat you then.”

The heat radiating from Aelyx’s touch was making her dizzy. Or maybe it was the circles. “You look like a palm reader holding my hand like that.” She swallowed a mouthful of jitters. “Did you study fortune telling, too?”

When he trailed a fingernail lightly along the inside of her wrist, she had to clamp her mouth shut to contain a moan. “Would you believe me if I said yes?” She watched his mouth as he spoke, nearly tripping over a fallen branch in the process. “I came across chiromancy,” he said, “or hand reading, along with other forms of divination while studying Earth’s history.”

His lips looked so soft and delicious. His throat probably tasted pretty good, too. Wait, no! She shook her head. Bad thoughts! Bad Cara!

He lifted a shoulder. “I didn’t think you’d believe me, but it’s true.” He held her palm firmly between his hands. “I’ll prove it.” Tracing his thumb along the crease beneath her fingers, he said, “This is your heart line.”

“Does that predict what I think it does?”

An impish twinkle gleamed in his eyes. “You’ve met a tall, dark stranger, highly intelligent, too. Very strong in your heart line.”

“Oh, Aelyx!” She froze in place, feigning surprise.

“Yes?”

“You’re tall.” On tiptoe, she inched her face closer to his.

“That’s right, I am.”

“You’re dark.” Biting her lip, she inched even closer.

“Especially compared to you.”

“And you couldn’t be any stranger if you tried!” With a giggle-snort, she lowered to her heels.

“Mock me all you like,” he said with a smile, “but the palm doesn’t lie.” He turned his attention back to her hand and they continued at a slow stroll. “This,” he said, pointing to another crease, “is your head line. I can see you’re a dedicated and voracious learner. You possess a competitive spirit that drives you to succeed. Which is why my constant victory troubles you so deeply.”

Cara rolled her eyes. “What about your constant need to remind me of your constant victory? What does that say about you?”

“Sorry.” He shook his head. “We’re not studying my palm right now.” He traced his thumb along another curve. “This is your life line. Very long. I see health and well-being. And if you look here,” he pointed to a tiny wrinkle that diverged off the main fold, “you can see a major life event. Based on its position, I’d guess the event will happen very soon.”

“What event?”

He shrugged and released her hand. “Palmistry doesn’t foretell the specifics.”

“Yeah, right. Or maybe you’re a lousy fortune teller.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Here’s where the deleted content ends. After this, the discussion turns to Cara’s questions about L’eihr, exactly as it’s printed in chapter sixteen of your book
